PowerPlay Episode Recap #1

January 8th, 2007

Jessica Kindron - West Seneca, NY

On a night where travel advisories plagued Buffalo’s Southtowns, more than 200 patrons showed up to the Buffalo Sports Garden to watch Sabres Defenseman Brian Campbell appear for a live taping of PowerPlay.

Brian "Soupy" Campbell, or, as he calls himself, "Soup Dog," was this season's first guest on Ghostline Entertainment's PowerPlay, hosted by Jeremy White of WGR 550. The first PowerPlay episode was taped at BSG Sports Bar and Grill at 2945 Southwestern Boulevard in West Seneca. Although the place was large, crazed Sabres fans packed a standing-room-only audience hoping to catch a glimpse of the Soup Dog. Needless to say, the atmosphere was very welcoming to the all-star defensemen.

White started off the show asking Campbell some questions about the season and the team as a whole. Campbell kept a light-hearted attitude as he humorously responded to questions, keeping the audience entertained. The ever-so-popular question “Who’s your roommate on the road?” came up, and Campbell told us he roomed with Maxim Afinogenov. When White asked “Is he as fast at everything else as he is on the ice,” Campbell responded “Not at all. He’s slow at everything else. I’m usually the one waiting for him… or waking him up.”

In the ticker segment (rapid fire odd question portion of the show), Campbell continued his comical attitude, jokingly stating his skepticism for the preceding questions. After the ticker, Campbell accepted questions from young fans in the audience. When asked why Cambell chose #51, he explained that was the number that was what was given to him. He realy wanted #14 but unfortunately “that one is up in the rafters” reffering to the retired jersey of rene robert. Crowd pleasing remarks came from Campbell’s response to the question “Who would you rather play with, Ovechkin or Crosby?” He said Crosby, not because of Ovechkin hit but because he’s a great setup player and he’s only going to get better. Responses were drawn from the December 2nd Washington Capitals Captain Alexander Ovechkin’s hit on Buffalo Sabres Co-Captain Daniel Briere.

The first episode of the 2007 season of the PowerPlay show will air on myTV on January 13th, 2007 at 6pm. Join us next week when our guest will be Sabres’ forward Derek Roy on Tuesday January 16, 2007 at Z’s Pizzeria at 4348 Seneca St., in West Seneca, NY.
