PowerPlay Episode Recap #2
January 16th, 2007

West Seneca - Sandwiched between two Bruins games, credited with a goal in each, Derek Roy made it out to the second taping of PowerPlay. Once again, Sabres fans packed in linked sardines to yet another standing room only audience, regardless of the ice and snow. This week fans squeezed into West Seneca’s Z’s Pizzeria and Sports Pub located at 4348 Seneca St. just to catch a glimpse of the Sabres’ center.
After losing three straight games, Roy still had his head up. When Jeremy White brought up the slump, he asked Derek how the Sabres view it as a team. Roy commented, “When you lose a game, mostly you go out the next night and you have a chance to redeem yourself.” He went on to say that there are 82 games in the season and they can’t get down at every loss.
Then came the fan favorite “Gauntlet” segment. In this segment host Jeremy White asks “off the cuff” questions, some of which have nothing to do with hockey, like White’s question, “who is the coolest man alive?” in which Derek Roy responded with “P. Diddy”. Of course in this segment there are some hockey-related questions. Jeremy asked “If you can get an open ice hit on anyone in the league, who would it be?” Before he finished the question, Roy blurted out “Chara” and the crowed roared with laughter, then he chimed back in with, “Does he have to fall?”
The fan question and answer segment is always interesting, when one fan asked who his favorite Sabre is, Derek plugged his line-mates, the captains, and goaltender Ryan Miller, mentioning the “unbelievable” save he made in the previous game. One gutsy fan asked “If you were being traded to a team, what team would you pick?” Roy keenly responded, “Probably the Buffalo Sabres,” going on to mention how he has never been traded in his career, and didn’t want to start now.
Derek Roy was the second Sabre of the season to survive the antagonizing questions of Jeremy White’s “Gauntlet” and all of the hockey-crazed fans around Buffalo. This show will air on Saturday January 20, 2007 at 6pm on myTV. Please join us for the next taping of PowerPlay where we’ll have Sabres’ defenseman Nathan Paetsch at Z’s Pizzeria on 4348 Seneca St. on January 18th (6:30pm start).
